Usai bermain golf, salah satu hal yang sering dibicarakan para golfer adalah green speed atau kecepatan bola dalam meluncur di green (lapangan golf). Selalu muncul dua pendapat, green speed tinggi dianggap lebih memudahkan, namun green speed rendah dinilai bisa lebih mudah dalam mengandalikan permainan. Mana yang benar?
Keduanya benar. Bagi pemain yang sudah pintar, green speed tinggi adalah kebutuhan. Golfer dengan kemampuan tinggi bisa mengendalikan bola dan memperkirakan semuanya. Sementara golfer pemula memilih bermain aman, dengan green yang tidak begitu cepat. Bola yang dipukul pun akhirnya lebih mudah dikendalikan.
Apapun pilihan golfer pada green speed yang diminati, tidak lepas dari kondisi lapangan (green). The Taman Dayu Club menjadikan standarisasi green speed dari US Golf Asociation (USGA) sebagai standart (lihat tabel). Dan hal itu merata di seluruh permukaan green di The Taman Dayu Club. Mulai Hole #1 hingga Hole #18.
Meski begitu, satu hal yang tidak boleh dilupakan adalah kondisi iklim yang memperngaruhi pertumbuhan rumput, yang secara otomatis akan berpengaruh pada green speed. Indonesia yang belakangan mengalami musim penghujan lebih lama, membuat rumput tumbuh lebih agresif.
Selain itu, kondisi permukaan dan posisi rumput juga harus dicermati. Rumput yang berada di mounting area, tertama di shadow area membutuhkan treatment yang berbeda pula. Biasanya, rumput di lokasi ini akan tumbuh lebih lambat, karena kuantitas sinar matahari yang menyinarinya pun sedikit.
Tentu saja, treatment khusus diperlukan untuk kondisi apapun. Yang harus diingat green uniform harus dipertahankan. Artinya, seluruh green di The Taman Dayu Club harus seragam dan sesuai standart USGA. Treatment yang bisa dilakukan, seperti airation (pengaturan udara), vertical cut (pemotongan vertikal), top dress (menabur pasir di permukaan green) dll, dilakukan di semua green.
Tujuan dari semua itu hanya satu, yakni mempertahankan The Taman Dayu Club menjadi golf course terbaik bertaraf international.***
Grass Affects The Green Speed
The most frequently talks after having golf play is about green speed. It always appears two different conceptions. One, high green speed is considered more easily in controlling the game. However, low green speed, in fact, is another point of view in term of reducing trouble of golf. Which one gives the truth?
Both are right. For sophisticated player with high quality golf technique, speed is a need. They are able to manage the ball and predict every aspect. By contrast, a beginner golfer prefers to play safe with low green speed in order to control the ball.
Whatever the taken option, a golf game depends on the green condition. The Taman Dayu Club has implemented US Golf Association (USGA) as green speed standard for its whole green surface from Hole#1 to Hole#18 (see the graphic). Various treatments can be done, such as, aeration, vertical cut, top dress, etc on all green.
